Our Honeymoon: Day 1: Manila Trip

August 9,2008

Our Honeymoon trip was a like a food trip only that we’re not talking about food but places. The next day after the BIG WEDDING, both of our parents were there at the hotel that morning to have breakfast with us. We were accompanied by my parents upon going to the Lumbia airport around 8am in the morning. This was my first time ever to ride a plane and my first ever trip to the Luzon area and Boo made sure that on our honeymoon I’ll be able to ride one going to Manila. Thanks Boo! That’s so sweet of you...

So my first ever experience to ride a plane was cool and it was really nice to see the clouds just right outside the plane window but my ears hurt a lot when we were up in the sky. I even about a cellphone bag while we were in the plane and of course didn’t forget to take pictures with Boo to savour the moment.

We reached the airport before lunch and immediately contacted the personnel at Kabayan Hotel (where we have made initial bookings) to fetch us from the airport. Kabayan Hotel, Pasay Branch is located near the MRT/LRT station and is also near to food chains like Mc Donalds.

Going to Kabayan Hotel:

Our first destination after arriving at the hotel was going to the Mall of Asia (MOA) where we roamed around, dined at KFC, bought a bear cellphone bling and a cellphone chain. We also roamed around the Ocean Drive and took pictures of us and the scenery. The Mall of Asia was really huge and one day isn’t enough to really visit all of the stores. After a few hours of malling, we decided to go to out next destination, the Manila Ocean Park. We decided to ask first from reliable people around the mall on how to get to the place but unfortunately most of them are not familiar how until one of them said to ride the Bus going to Baclaran and from there ride a jeep going to Luneta. And so we did, unfortunately, we didn’t know where to stop and so we decided to stop by an unfamiliar bus stop and from there walk our way to the Baclaran Church. We passed through a small walkway which was to our luck was just right beside the church. We went to the church to toss a coin at the wishing well, said our prayers, took pictures and headed our way out. There’s a mini tiange outside the church just like the ones we have at the Night Cafe in CDO. I even bought a shirt for the price of 50 pesos! From there, we really didn’t know where to go. We we’re clueless. But you know, God sends you angels at the least expected time and he sends it through friends and strangers. We asked the MMDA to help us on our way. He led us to a jeep going to Luneta and our friend, Vitz told us to stop at the Luneta Park and from there, the Ocean Park is just a few walks away.

Snaps at Baclaran:

The ride to the Luneta Park was a long one. We passed through Pasay, and etc. I could barely remember the places that we’ve passed through to get to Luneta Park. It was like a 30-45 minute ride. We finally reached Luneta Park around 5:30 in the afternoon. The Park was really nice and very well developed. We took pictures of Magellan’s tall statue and walked the parks and gardens of Luneta. You could also see there a mini-fountain at the center along with food booths and people having picnic with their loved ones and families. You also get to see historical figures at the Rizal Park.

Pictures at Luneta Park:

After taking pictures at the Rizal Park, it was already 6 o’clock in the evening and we still haven’t reached the Ocean Park. We were already so hungry and so tired to walk a few steps more. Whew! So much for this adventure! So finally we gave up and opt to ride a taxi where we paid PHP50. The funny thing was the Ocean Park was just right across the Rizal Park only that you have to take a 15-minute walk up to the gates. Haay… Still, Jeff and I were thankful that we were able to rest our feet and our backs from exhaustion.

15 minutes after the taxi ride, we finally arrived to our much awaited destination for the day. We were so exhausted but very excited to see what the Manila Ocean Park has in store for us. The entrance fee costs PHP400 and you get to see a wide variety of fishes placed in aquariums and on the middle part of the tour is a giant aquarium where you get to see huge fishes. It really wiped off everything we’ve gone through for that day. And after an hour of exploring the place, Boo and I decided to go home.

At the Manila Ocean Park:

Now getting home was our next dilemma. Hay! (sighs) We walked from the Manila Ocean Park back to the outside gates and cross the street near the traffic light. Again, we used our instincts to choose reliable people whom we can ask. A guy told us that we need to ride at the MRT/LRT station because it only takes one ride to get to the Kabayan Hotel. The only sad part there was, we still need to hike from our current location to the MRT/LRT station which was 2 blocks away from where we are. Sad to say but that was our only way of getting back home.
So we started our journey to the MRT/LRT station. Unfortunately, the rain poured very hard and we were stranded right outside Mc Donalds. (Sighs). How do we get home now with the rain pouring hard? We didn’t want the rain to soak us in going home. So the rain left us no choice but to ride a taxi which was an hour if travel that made me doze off. We reached Kabayan Hotel paying around PHP120 pesos. Well that was just fair from everything we went through that day. We were so tired that our feet hurt and so hungry that our stomachs grumbled. Lolz. Well, the good thing was Kabayan was just a few walks away from Mc Donalds and so we went there first to treat ourselves a big meal. HAHAHA!!!

The day ended with a smile on our faces even though we went through a lot just to get to the Manila Ocean Park. The good side about the experience was we were able to visit more places along the way - the Baclaran church, Magellan’s Monument, the Luneta Park and the Rizal Park. It was an experience worth remembering!
