Our Honeymoon: Day4-5: Our Baguio Trip

August 12-13, 2008

The Baguio trip was the most awaited part of our honeymoon escapade. As stated in my previous posts, Ninong Noel and the rest were very kind to drop us at the Victoria Bus Terminal that night. The bus was scheduled to leave Manila at exactly 11 o’clock in the evening and will arrive in Baguio at around 3 o’clock in the morning.

Since Boo and I were three hours early from our scheduled trip, we stayed on the bleachers at the ground floor watching TV to kill the time. When it was already 10PM, Boo and I went up to the traveller’s lounge and waited until our bus would arrive. The terminal has a traveller’s lounge on the second floor in which you could only use it an hour before your scheduled trip. If you’re a few hours early, you can stay at the ground floor where bleachers and a television are put in place for passengers.

At last our bus arrived and everyone went down to board the bus. Our tickets had seat numbers so we would not be worried even if we were the last ones to enter the bus, no one will replace our seats and even when nature calls, a comfort room is provided for the passengers to use during the trip.

We arrived in Baguio at around 3am and waited for Boo’s distant relative to help us find a hotel where we can stay for the night. It was really and I say really cold like someone had turned on the air-conditioning full-blast!

After a few minutes of walking in the cold air, we finally arrived at Hotel 45. We stayed on one of their fan rooms that costs a thousand for a night. Boo and I were actually looking for an air-conditioned room but I guess, when you’re in Baguio you don’t have to use one since the air is really cold.

The room at Hotel 45 was good for 2 persons with a queen sized bed that feels damp when you touch it. The room was not something that you can recommend but it’s good enough for someone who will just use it for sleeping purposes. The good thing about the place was it was just a few walks away from SM City Baguio and from the Cathedral.

So we took a rest for a bit. Around 8am, Boo and I started our city tour by walking from our hotel to the Baguio Cathedral. It was a 15 minute walk from the hotel and we just went in the Cathedral to pray and took pictures outside the church. On the right corner from the Cathedral was the Session road. We passed through coffee shops with free Wifi and happen to pass by KFC to where we took our breakfast.

After having breakfast, Boo and I started walking up to the market place along Session road. We were looking for the Burnham park but couldn’t seem to find it. So while we were in the market, we took the chance of buying in souvenirs and the very first thing that we bought was Baguio bonnets, coin purse and t-shirts. I also bought a green knitted bag which I used for the rest of our tour in Baguio. We spend the rest of the morning buying souvenirs, not to forget my favourite strawberry jam.

At around lunch time, Boo and I went back to the hotel, changed comfy outfits and headed our way to SM to take our lunch at Tokyo Tokyo. It then rained so hard that when you get to the 2nd and 3rd floor of the mall, you would see fogs all over the terrace. It was really amazing and it was so cold at the same time. Too bad for me, I forgot to bring my pants with me and so I was wearing pedals the whole time. While strolling inside the mall, Boo and I bumped into one of the stalls that make bar pins for PHP50. We decided to have our wedding picture made and placed in a bar pin to serve as a token of remembrance.

Around 3pm, Boo and I decided to rent a taxi for a City tour. I read some posts online that taxi drivers could take you to the beautiful spots in Baguio for just PHP500. It was too late for us though, we only have 2 hours left to tour the place and that won’t be enough to tour the city. Luckily for us, we met this taxi driver who agreed to tour us until 7PM for PHP500.

Our first destination was the Mines View Park. The place was a long ride from SM and so we arrived there at around 4PM. Before we entered the place, we bought some souvenirs outside the park and I was able to buy 2 knitted beach wears and Boo bought 3 vests. We took a quick look at Mines View Park and the view was overlooking the mountains and it looked pretty amazing. God works wonders and this is one of those. We just took pictures of the place and immediately proceed to our next destination, The Mansion. We only got to take a picture on the big sign that says “The Mansion” but we never really went in to have a look. Aside from time constraints, I think guests are not allowed to enter the house. Though I’m not really that sure... In front of The Mansion was the Wright Park but we didn’t really go in to take pictures since the driver said that the place was not that enticing and so we just took pictures on the park sign and headed for our next destination, The Botanical Garden. This place was really nice. It was like the Garden of Eve. We just stayed there for about 20 minutes and headed back to the taxi to go to our next and final destination, the Camp John Hay. The place looks expensive and as what the driver told us, it sure is really expensive, from the room accommodation down to the food and souvenirs being sold.

It was already 6 in the evening when we arrived there. Good thing our taxi driver was very kind to ask the guards to let us in and tour us at the oldest American House inside Camp John Hay. They said that the house was owned by an American and was built for a 100 years. The house looks cozy and comfy to live in which made me miss home... The guards toured us to each of the rooms, the living room and the kitchen. Of course, we took pictures along the tour.

Our City tour ended from the Camp John Hay and the taxi driver brought us back to the hotel to leave our stuff so we can go back to SM to have our dinner. We spent the rest of the evening at Starbucks and then head back to the hotel to take a rest.

Morning came; Boo and I took our complimentary breakfast then headed our way to the market to buy more pasalubongs. We left for Baguio at 1PM in the afternoon and arrived in Manila at 5PM where Ninong Ben and Ninang Aida fetched us from the bus terminal.

Stay tuned for our 6th and last day of our honeymoon. Ciao!
